VERY REV. PETER BONNYMAN (1933-1942)

was born in a district of Scotland which was not touched

by the Reformation, the all-Catholic district of the Enzie

in Banffshire. As a boy he attended St. Gregory's School,

Presholme, and later went to Blairs College and St.

Sulpice, finishing his theological studies at St. Peter's

College. He was ordained in June, 1909, and was sent as a

curate to St. Patrick's, Anderston, afterwards serving in

the same capacity in St. Michael's, Parkhead, St. Charles',

Paisley, and St. Joseph's, Cardowan. His first appointment

as a parish priest was to Houston, and in 1933 he was

appointed to take charge of St. Paul's, where he remained

until he was transferred to the second oldest mission in

the Archdiocese, St. Mary's, Calton. Canon Bonnyman's

great loves were the Catholic Truth Society, of which he

was President, and the Annual Pilgrimage to Lourdes. His

great fear was the evils of Communism, which he

preached against in the days when these evils were not so

apparent as they are to-day. Canon Bonnyman died

suddenly in St. Mary's on 4th August, 1948. R.I.P.
