REV. DAVID QUIGLEY (1942-1959)

REV. DAVID QUIGLEY (1942-1959) was born in Glasgow

on 26th September, 1887. In the autumn of 1904 he went to

Blairs College, remaining there for four years, when he

was sent for his theological studies to the Royal Scots

College, Valladolid. In that Spanish city he was ordained

priest on 2nd June, 1917.

Returning to his native diocese, Father Quigley was

appointed as curate to St. Patrick's, Anderston, where he

laboured for nine years. In 1926 he was transferred to St.

Ninian's, Kirkintilloch, and eleven years later was

appointed as parish priest to the small Renfrewshire

parish of Linwood. In 1942, Father Quigley became parish

priest of St. Paul's, where he was destined to remain until

his death on 3rd June, 1959, in his 71st year.

During the last few years of his ministry in St. Paul's,

Father Quigley was in declining health, but his interest in

his people and in the work of the parish remained very

deep and real. To his lot fell the immense task of

replacing the old chapel-school with a modern church, a

task he was not destined to see completed. His death

occurred only a few days before the solemn dedication of

the foundation stone by His Grace Archbishop Campbell.
